What is Colloidal Silver
A true colloid is any particle of a substance suspended in another medium. Colloidal silver is, therefore, particles of silver suspended in a medium, in this case, distilled water. Colloidal silver can be safely used both internally and externally as an anti-microbial. The term ‘Colloidal Silver’ is generally used as a term to described a mixture of ionic and colloidal silver. Pure ionic silver is completely clear and contains no particles. Pure colloidal silver is amber coloured and contains only particles and no ions. They will both contain exactly the same amount of silver at at given PPM. Most commercial colloidal silver products are a mixture of the two and the ratio of this mix is chosen depending on your intended use. The easiest way to tell between them is by the colour. High colloid content will give a translucent amber colour, high ionic content will give either a clear or light straw colour depending on the amount of colloids.

What is Ionic Silver?
A silver ion is a silver atom missing its single valance electron. It is therefore ‘unstable’ and has a powerful positive electrical charge. For cuts, burns, gargle, ear drops, eye drops etc. this is the best type. It is for use primarily on the outside of the body. Salt/Chlorides inside the body will instantly turn a silver ion into silver chloride. Silver Chloride has no value as an anti-microbial and is insoluble in the body so the silver is wasted if it is used internally.

Both types will contain exactly the same amount of silver which is specified by the PPM value. High colloid ratio products cost slightly more because of the additional redox capping processing steps required and not because they contain more silver. Make sure you buy the correct type for your intended use or buy a mixed kit to get some of each.

Does it work?
Yes! Best of all it kills mechanically, pathogenic organisms cannot become “resistant” to it.
Silver has some medicinal uses going back for centuries. The Phoenicians are said to have stored water, wine and vinegar in silver bottles to prevent spoiling. In early times people would put silver coins in milk bottles to prolong the milk’s freshness. Hippocrates, the father of medicine wrote that silver had beneficial healing and antimicrobial properties. In the early 1990s silver gained regulatory approval as an anti-microbial agent. Prior to the introduction of antibiotics, colloidal silver was used as a germicide and disinfectant.
Bacteria, virus’, mold and fungus are known to be lethally effected by both silver colloids and silver ions. Since the patent for colloidal silver long ago expired, and side effects of pharmaceuticals are so profitable, there is little to no funding for independent research into exactly how silver kills pathogens from the deep pockets in government or the pharmaceutical industry. What we do know is that silver will even kill the ‘Flesh Eating’ virus, MRSA, (in under six seconds, in vitro) 
There is overwhelming anecdotal, historical, and testimonial evidence as to the efficacy of silver as an anti-microbial. We do know that silver disables the enzyme by which aerobic pathogens respirate. Simply put, it stops them from breathing. It has also known that it interferes with the electrical field generated by some pathogens to camouflage themselves from the body’s natural defenses. In doing so it weakens them as they try to maintain the field making them easier for our body to identify and kill, if the silver doesn’t kill it outright itself. Silver is used in the burn units at hospitals because it fights infection, promotes healing and reduces pain. Infections from catheters have been greatly reduced by coating them with silver. It is so effective that it is even used in the water purification systems in hospitals and on the International Space Station.

Due to the lack of incentives (patents) for big pharma to develop silver based products, there have been no independent studies to get silver products approved as medicines. For this reason, manufacturers and resellers of colloidal silver products are not allowed to make any specific medical claims for their products and can only advise you to make your own research using search engines to see just what people are saying. The EU classifies Colloidal Silver as an anti-microbial mineral solution and that is how it is now marketed.

Is it safe?
Yes! While there has been a great deal of money and propaganda spread around to discourage people from trying colloidal and ionic silver as an immunity booster and topical antibiotic, There is no credible evidence to support that silver has any deleterious effects to the human body, or their pets for that matter. Here we are talking about pure silver, in distilled water. If you read carefully all the crafted arguments against silver you will find why I make this distinction clear. When the word “Colloidal” Silver is mixed in with every conceivable permutation of silver in an altered, or adulterated state to confuse, frighten, and mislead then a disservice is done. A lie is told. There is just no credible evidence that silver, in its pure form, or ionic silver when used topically, present any health risks at all. If it is safe enough to be used in hospitals it should tell you all you need to know. Silver also has its own E number (E174) and is used in silver coloured cake decorations, they are made of silver powder mixed with sugar. Do your own research and draw your own conclusions.

Can I make it at home?
Yes! but there are certain precautions to be followed if you want high quality solution. It is possible to get quite close to commercial quality with patience and care. You will definately need to use a proper generator as using a few batteries and some wire will simply not give the desired results.

Which type should I buy?
Ionic Silver is the more aggressive pathogen killer because it is ‘unstable’. Giving that it is missing an electron it has a very strong electric (positive) charge and will steal back that electron at the first opportunity and, fortunately, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and fungus are complicated biological machines and are also a great source of elections. So you can see how this works! 
If a silver ion gets near a pathogen it will displace electrons within the pathogen if not pull it completely free. This displacement or loss of an electron is fatal to the pathogen. 
It is also known that silver, in ionic or colloid form disables the enzyme by which pathogens respirate. In short they are aerobic and need oxygen, our beneficial bacteria (in the gut) are anaerobic and do not need oxygen. By this disabling action, pathogens just can’t breathe. The sad part is that a silver ion, once it has regained this electron it is now a different compound, and loses the great majority of its detrimental effect on pathogens. Salt (chlorides) are another source of elections and will convert silver ions very quickly into silver chloride, and our bodies are loaded with chlorides. (Not to worry, the answer to that is coming in a very few minutes). As the size of these new ‘compounded’ silver particles are so small there is little harm they can do in any reasonable quantities where they would end up in the body; such as if used as a gargle or dental rinse. In fact, the vast majority of the ‘Colloidal Silver’ solutions sold today are in fact mainly ionic solutions yet there in virtually no reported ill effects from people drinking them without knowing they are wasting a large proportion of their money by using the wrong type. 
So the proper use of ionic silver is topically for wounds and eye, ear and throat infections. It is also good for killing bacteria on surfaces.

High colloid ratio colloidal silver is ideal for use in an ultrasonic nebulizer and for drinking to have a systemic silver presence in the body. Recommended dose is one fluid half ounce a day (15ml) and then, if needed, increase as you feel necessary. A nebulizer is recommended for targeting lung congestion and infections. It is also a fast delivery system to deliver the silver to the blood stream.
